Race report from LRRL:

Firstly, a huge thank you must go to Birstall RC and all volunteers for putting on last weekend's race. Its a lightning fast course at Swithland, as shown in the ridiculously large number of county standards achieved! 670 runners of 690 finishers achieved a standard. 9 were the highest standard, Rhodium, with 11 Platinum and a whopping 48 Diamond standards to follow. For the first time this year all 27 member clubs were represented in a race.

The outright race win was taken by guest runner Frank Baddick, again following on from his West End 8 win, with special note to be made for his sub-5 minute mile pacing to win in 29:46. The LRRL win was taken by Matt Scarsbrook of Badgers, his third win in a row with 30:21. He was followed home by Tom Mahon of Wreake & Soar Valley in 31:19 and Luke Ingram third in the LRRL with 31:52.

Gemma Steel marked her first LRRL appearance of 2023 with a fine ladies win and 7th outright in 32:22. She was pushed all the way however by guest runner Sonia Samuels of Sale Harriers, who eventually finished in 32:36. Emily Smith made it a Charnwood 1-2 to finish second in 35:28, with Joanna Male of West End Runners placing third in 35:31.

Paul Featherstone of Wreake & Soar Valley was the first vet male runner home, running 32:31, ahead of Scott Green of OWLS who was second in 33:52, just edging out Lee O'Connor of Poplar RC who was third in 33:54.

Sonia Samuels was the overall vet ladies race winner, but it was Amy Freeman-Hughes of Poplar RC who took the LRRL win in 39:34, ahead of Nicki Nealon of Huncote Harriers in 39:55, and Kimberley Blount of Birstall RC who was third in 40:18.

Huncote Harriers JayJay Rathod took another U20 male win in 32:47, just under a minute ahead of his nearest rival Mackenzie Bloxham who ran 33:45. Ashveer Garcha of Roadhoggs placed third in 38:45.
