ENDURANCE HANDICAP
Dave
Little has sent me the Endurance Handicap Results up to the Desford
race and it
makes interesting reading, he also sent me this bit of info which I
hope makes it a bit clearer!
"The
handicappers look at each runner's performance in a number of races
and award a "handicap" of 0 to an extremely good club runner and call
that the scratch time. The most favourable handicap is 50, which represents
2.5 times scratch performance. A slow, ageing athlete could have the
same handicap as a much younger beginner who is just starting to run.
I think that this still means that they both compete fairly against
the elite runners and could be rewarded for performances."

a look and see what you think:- LADIES

The Glen Hillyer Club Championship.
The
Club Championship was put forward by Club Captain, Steve Powell, the
idea is to encourage all abilities to venture further away from just
winter and summer league races.
The Championship will also honour the name of Glen Hillyer who died
suddenly, over a year ago and is still sadly missed. Glen was a founder
member of Birstall Running Club which was formerly 'Oliver' Running
Club and it seems very fitting that the Club Championship should be
named after him as he would certainly have been one of the first to
compete in it.
You
must fulfill a number of criteria to count, for example, if a faster
runner fails to make one of the remaining two cross country races they
will not be eligible for this year's championship. Ideally the Championship
will encourage consistency and dedication in all our runners.
Essentially the scores are worked out on how each runner has performed
against fellow Birstall runners. If you do more than the required amount
of races in a category your best results will count. There will be Trophies
for both men and women overall and also for age categories.
