WEST END 8 Sunday 1st
June
A much better day for running,
nice and cool. About 25 turned up for the race. RESULTS

Hinckley half Marathon
What a difference from the last few years, instead of thunder and lightening
we had extremley hot sunshine! People were dropping like flies on the
grass verges. The paramedics were busy all day.
Thanks to Steve Mayoe- Smith who after running the half went on to help
other people who were suffering.
Also Many thanks to Chris and Liz who were on their bikes and I believe
helped a man called William Fraser,
who wanted to thank Liz as he is convinced she saved his life.
We had about 38 runners from Birstall, some good times considering the
heat, Zoe came 4th, Lesley 11th, Adele 18th and Maeve 42nd making up
Birstall A team. The rest of the results are below.
Well done to everyone and lets hope the West End 8 is a bit cooler!

STROKE
THE MAMMOTH 27-04-08 RESULTS 5K AND 10K
Stroke the Mammoth
what can I say? We've raised £2500 and counting.
I'm going to be jolly British and talk about the weather. Well, the
forecast for Sunday, on Friday, was a morning downpour (and wasn't it
a spectacular thunderstorm when it did arrive!) which would have put
a damper on things.
In the event we had hazy sun all morning - a relief for the organisers
though the unaccustomed warmth didn't help the runners. 102 runners
took part, 24 doing 5km and 78 in the 10km race. The good news is that
there were no major glitches on the day, so there's "nothing to laugh
at". Well, apart from a well hung-over parking marshall and club stalwarts
in disarray trying to put the tent up in dog-turd alley..
It is thanks to Swithland Water, Watermead Park, all the marshalls,
and everyone who helped out on the day,
that all went to plan. And Mick, Bob, Cat, Sarah, Angie, Deano, and
Colin, who made it happen.
We must also thank numerous sponsors who donated raffle prizes - a list
of the prizes, sponsors, and winners is published on the noticeboard
at the Co-op.
The handful of fun-runners deserve special mention for sweating round
5k and 10k so that we can help LGH do more for stroke patients like
Goggo. And finally, Deano is getting sponsored for Hinckley Half for
Stroke the Mammoth so anyone(like me) who hasn't got round to chipping
in a couple of fivers,
can send it to Dean at 24 Tempest Rd, LE4 etc.
