BARROW BOXING DAY HANDICAP
At
9.30 I was still undecided as to whether to run the barrow 6 Handicap
race. Bob had decided to and was already digging his Santa hat out of
the cupboard. We had eaten far too much on Christmas day and had been
very lazy so I suppose it would be a good way of getting rid of all that
food, so off with the warm dressing gown and on with the festive gear
we were on our way!
When we arrived there were loads of people in fancy dress and some who
looked very serious.
Lorna set off at 11am and I followed her 2 mins later, at about the 4
1/2 mile marker a few serious runners were coming past including Powelly
dressed in a full Santa outfit and Marc along side him, also Dave Snutch
flew by me. My fur trim had decided to come undone and I had to take three
pins from my number to keep it from falling off, luckily it stayed on
as I was running out of pins!! As we got within the last half mile there
were loads of people speeding by, I ran in with John Mullins who let me
finish before him, (thanks John.) Not far behind me came Bob, John Starbuck,
Adam, Julian and Lorna. It was a really good race and everyone seemed
to enjoy it. Thanks to Mick Powell and family for the support and to Gib
who was the club photographer for the day, sorry to all who weren't featured,
mainly Julian who was out of focus and with his orange t shirt,he looked
as though he had been "Tangoed"! Nice one of the dog Gib! We
all piled into the pub and was joined by Ish and Tom who wished they had
run it, next year lads.
A few of us were slightly out on our times, it's amazing how people recover
after Christmas day for this run!
Well done to Steve who managed to keep the Santa outfit on all the way
round, it must have been really warm.
Hopefully more will run next year, it's a great race and well done to
Barrow for organising it. (Apologies if I have forgotten anybody.)
