SOME OTHER ACTIVITIES WE ARE INVOLVED IN

BARROW BOXING DAY HANDICAP

At 9.30 I was still undecided as to whether to run the barrow 6 Handicap race. Bob had decided to and was already digging his Santa hat out of the cupboard. We had eaten far too much on Christmas day and had been very lazy so I suppose it would be a good way of getting rid of all that food, so off with the warm dressing gown and on with the festive gear we were on our way! See article

TIM BOON'S MARATHON

A few weeks ago, Marisa asked us if we would be interested in helping Tim Boon, the Leicestershire CCC chief coach, to run 26.2 miles. Apparently he had intended to do New York Marathon in aid of the RAINBOWS children’s hospice in Loughborough and was unable to do it, so was going to run from Hinckley to Loughborough to compensate. We thought it would be good publicity for the club and help someone achieve a useful aim so agreed. See article.

LEICESTER MARATHON

We started up the Leicester Marathon six years ago with a lot of help from the other Leicester running clubs, Everards, Shoe Zone, Mallory Park, Swithland water and many others. We raised nearly £9,000 in that first year and have continued to donate a the majority of the entry fee to charity. Next year we will again be supporting LOROS and Rainbows with Shoe Zone as our new sponsors. See the web site ttp://www.leicestermarathon.org.uk for details.

DRAGON BOAT RACING 2006

We went back a second year to Holme Pierrepoint for a BDA National League Dragon Boat race. 20 people enjoyed a great day in the boat and some made a weekend of it by having a barbecue and camping the night before. See the BDA web site for more information and this article for the spirit of the event.

RUN-BIKE-RUN

In April and October we have a Run - Bike - Run which is organised by Rob.
There are usually 12 -15 runners taking part with bikes ranging from 'sit up and beg' types to sophisticated racing bikes.
The run is about 3 miles round the lakes, then maybe a quick change of shoes etc. and on to the bike. The bike route was different this year due to the closure of Watermead Way, so after a few ideas it was decided on a two lap course around Birstall and Wanlip which was very good and we will probably stick to the same one.
Another quick change and off on the run again round the lakes. It's a very good morning and after another quick change we end up in the Legion for the prize giving.
See an article on the latest one.

TRIATHLON

Quite a few of our members are also members of the Leicester Tri Club and regularly take part in triathlons. One or two runners have even been persuaded to try their hand as novices.

ANNUAL CLUB TRIP

The trip is the high point of the year for many members, there are even a couple of races during a "hectic" long weekend. See the write up and photos of the 2006 trip.
