The Marathon was a great success and many thanks to all who turned out to marshall, officiate, tend the water stations or just cheer people along, it would just not happen without all of these people.
Normal service can now resume on this web site and as soon as I get information from Hinckley on the first Derby Runner X Country on the 18th November, I will put it on the Noticeboard.
What a lot to look forward too this Autumn and Winter, get your walshes and spikes out of the shed, give them a clean and come along to the Derby Runner x country series.

The Shepshed 7 is on the 4th November, a very popular run but entries close on the 26th so there is still time.

Not forgetting the Turkey Trot but if you haven't entered already then forget it, it's full and has been for weeks!

SUE AND IANS 5TH FRENCH HALF MARATHON
Ian and Sue ran in France on their holidays again this year and for the fifth time ran the Half Marathon in the Southern Vendee. The 7.30pm Saturday race is a point to point, finishing on the coast at Longville-Sur-Mer, details can be found on their web site 'De La Terre A La Mer'. Ian had a fair run, 1.37.08 which was good as it was into the inevitable sea breeze, Susie did a lot better in 1.30.22 for 2nd Lady and 1st Vet (76th finisher out of 487), which earned her a glass trophy, a 'beautiful' piece of hand-painted slate, and a cheque for 150 Euros. This was her best time and highest finish. Ian had to settle for the free beer in the tent at the finish line!

Potters Arc Half Marathon
Sue Black 1st V45 - 1hr:32mins -75th overall, Ian Black 1hr:39mins - 175th overall.

Dave Richards coming 2nd out of 8 in the 800 metres at Leamington (Midland Vets League)
Also 2nd - V55 in the Midland Masters Championship
in a Vets PB of 2mins 26secs.

Many congratulations to both Mark and Georgina for completing their own long distance challenge.

Mark completed the Birmingham to London canal run of 145 miles, to finish in an amazing 20th place,in a time of 38hrs 11mins, only 10 minutes behind Bobby Brown! 35 runners had to retire during the course of the race.
The amount of training that was needed to complete this epic run must have been so time consuming and he did this so modestly that not many new he was actually running it.. but they do now! Well done Mark

Georgina has never done a marathon before and despite training with her running partners, Alison, Fiona and Sue plus others from the running club, was plagued with one injury after the other but she decided to go ahead and completed the Edinburgh Marathon on 27th May in 4hr 46 mins 56 secs. Well done George.

Bratton Hilly 2007

The forum topic posted by Mr Cutts called "Another Daft Idea" was acted out at the weekend. Nick, Mick and I set off in Big Red (Nicks Landrover), shortly after noon on Friday, Tom Tom had been programmed and we were on our way to Stonehenge, and for a back up Mick had a trusty map. The fourth traveller Julian had turned down the offer of a lift and decided to cycle the 125 miles to Frome in Somerset which was our destination for the evening, later we were joined by Sarah, Steve and Lorna.
Birstall were only fielding six runners this year which had drastically reduced the field to 72. The gun went off at 11 0'clock sharp and we proceeded up "the hill"...........
Full story in the next Newsletter.
Finishing positions were Nick 27th in 55:25, Steve 44th in 61:53, Rob 56th in 68:10, Mick 65th in 73:08, Sarah 68th in 74:16 and Lorna 70th in 77:01.

Hinckley Dog and Hedgehog Half Marathon

As normal it was pouring with rain! Despite this we had a superb 50 runners.
There were some fantastic Birstall performances, the ladies excelled themselves yet again with Liz running a pb to finish 4th.
Our men faired quite well as well! Top 2 men Neil and Ish had a real battle with Neil edging Ish after the 10 mile mark.
Runner of the day was very hard to award with James, Jb, all the ladies and Nick all in with a shout. It was decided Neil should win the award running his fastest time for a number of years.
'Donkey' was easy! Dave was in with a shout doing his impression of a shot soldier down the final straight moaning of cramp! But my hands were tied, despite running a massive pb James took the donkey for not being spotted at the finish because he wasn't wearing a Birstall vest!
