DERBY RUNNER CROSS COUNTRY 2nd RACE AT BAGWORTH HEATH HOSTED BY DESFORD STRIDERS

The race after the night before

The previous evening was the presentation do and how I and several other members managed to drag ourselves out of bed I will never know. However despite the celebrations we did manage to turn out 7 ladies and 18 men, with Tom and Pete in their Sheila's Wheels outfits from the night before.
Notably missing in the top order were Ish who is running in Japan and Neil whose car broke down, if you believe that one you will believe anything.
When I was driving to the race it was absolutely chucking it down and hadn't bought the tent so I was expecting a bit of verbal when I arrived, but the rain gradually stopped, which saved my bacon. The rain however did create a very very muddy course.
The race started at 11 this week with no delays. On this course the runners pass the start/finish point 3 times which makes for good spectatoring of which I was one due to injury and not excess alcohol as some are led to believe.
On the first lap there was a bit of puffing and panting and a slight layer of mud, by the second lap the puffing had turned to gasping and Tom and Pete were getting their dresses very muddy. By the finish all were extremely muddy and well knackered.
Positions were as follows:
Kat 15th Veronica 23rd Linda 29th Marie 53rd George 80th Angie 81st Alison 88th
Rob 22nd Jon 62nd Gary 88th Pete 93rd Tim Lyon 102nd Wilko 136th Tim Webb 138th Dave 140th Joe 144th Tom 162nd Chuff 180th Tony 189th Ken 204th John S 206th JB 218th Deryk 222nd Billy 226th Carl DNF A quick, cold wash was had in the lake then on to Desford Sports Club to await the results. Due to the lack of top runners our team positions were down on the previous race, Men 11th, Ladies 8th and overall we were 9th.
Names to mention are Rob and Kat who are both getting back on form.
The Runner of the Trophy goes jointly to Tom and Pete for wearing fancy dress and raising money for the stroke unit at the General Hospital, Donkey was not awarded because there was not one.
Rob.

Excellent turnout today at the first Derby Runner x- country at Sharnford hosted by Hinckley RC.
There were 33 of us in all, 23 men 10 ladies.
Well done to all who braved the weather. It was wet, windy and cold but once you started running, it wasn't too bad.
The men came an excellent 4th, the ladies were joint 3rd with 2 other clubs, and the mixed team an incredible 3rd. I believe it is the best result we have had in a long time.
Once again well done everyone.
